Description
Behind the clock inside the Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower.
I like the glass and the metals construction contrast.
A little history of this beautiful building.
"Located in the heart of downtown Baltimore's West Side near the Hippodrome Theater, Baltimore Convention Center and the University of Maryland of Baltimore, the 15 story city landmark is the perfect location for artists. The newly renovated Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower has officially opened its doors in 2008. The building has been transformed into a tower for visual and literary artists and now offers 12 floors of artist studio space. Each month, guests are welcome to visit the artists during Open Studio Day. Visitors can tour the building and shop for original artwork. This historic structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was modeled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy.
The Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower was completed in 1911 and was the tallest building in Baltimore at the time. It has been a Baltimore landmark ever since. The tower was built by Captain Isaac Emerson, the inventor of the headache remedy Bromo Seltzer. The most interesting feature is the still-functioning tower clock, the face of which displays the word Bromo Seltzer instead of numbers. Each of the clocks’ faces measure 24 feet in diameter, one foot larger than the clock faces on London’s Big Ben. The famous clock atop the tower holds its own separate historic registration."
